mmWave Presence Sensors Explained

mmWave Presence Sensors Explained

A normal motion sensor is good at noticing movement. A mmWave presence sensor is designed to notice whether someone is still present, even if they are sitting still at a desk or on a sofa.

When mmWave is useful

  • Keeping office lights on while someone is typing.
  • Bathroom and hallway lighting that feels less jumpy.
  • Room occupancy automations where a simple PIR sensor turns off too soon.

The honest tradeoff

mmWave is powerful, but it can need tuning. In small rooms or thin-walled spaces it may detect movement you did not intend. Good placement matters.
